The Consulate-General of Chile in Sydney announces that the Chilean Training Ship Esmeralda will visit Sydney from June 19 to 24, as part of its LVII Instruction Voyage. The ship will be open to the public on 20, 21 and 23 between 12pm and 4pm at Fleet Base East 5, Garden Island Navy Base. On Sunday 24 at midday, there will be a Holy Mass on board, which is open to the entire Chilean community.Because of the security measures imposed by the Australian Army, all those willing to visit the ship or to attend the Holy Mass will need to register in advance with the Consulate and to present a current ID at the wharf.
Esmeralda will also visit Easter Island, Wellington in New Zealand, Sydney and Brisbane in Australia, Bali in Indonesia, Singapore, Bombay in India, Haifa in Israel, Istanbul in Turkey, Cadiz and Palmas in Spain, returning to South America by Cartagena in Colombia and Guayaquil in Ecuador. The ship will arrive back in Valparaiso on January 6, 2013.Esmeralda has 321 crew on board – 34 females and 287 males. Amid the male personnel there are invited sailors from Germany, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, New Zealand, Singapore and Uruguay.
